He is a graduate of Sussex University (U.K.) and IEP (INSEAD). Trent Limited runs several retail formats including WESTSIDE, LANDMARK, STAR BAZAAR, SISLEY and FASHION YATRA. Before joining Trent he has worked for Nestle, U.K. and Tata Exports Limited (now Tata International Limited). Under the WESTSIDE fascia, as many as forty two stores are currently operational nationwide. Mr. Tata has overseen the growth of TRENT from a one store company to over seventy five stores across formats by December ’09. The consolidated turnover of the company has increased from Rs. 8.2 crs. in FY 1998-99 to Rs. 885.2 crs. in FY 2008-09. TRENT expects to add about twenty new stores during the current financial year. TRENT launched its first hypermarket store under the name of STAR BAZAAR in 2004. It offers quality products at very reasonable rates across 7 stores currently. In 2005 TRENT acquired LANDMARK – a books and music retailer with an investment of over Rs.130 crs. TRENT has also recently entered into a franchise and wholesale supply arrangement with Tesco for the Star Bazaar business. Trent has entered into a joint venture with Inditex to bring ZARA and its other brands to India. Also, Trent has inked franchisee agreements with the Benetton group to bring Sisley and the Arcadia Group (UK) to bring TopShop to India. TRENT is thus establishing its presence in all major apparel market segments and is now acknowledged to be one of the leading and respected organized retailers in India with national presence. Mr. N.N. Tata is also a Director of various Tata Companies including Voltas Limited, Titan Industries Ltd., Tata Investment Corporation and the Bombay Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
