Retail Education, Training and Research

Retail education and training are the tools by which rai is tackling the issue of lack of awareness of retailing as a profession, dearth of retail talents and such an effort would create a lot of employment opportunities in the retail sector. Retail search helps rai build a reservoir of retail information and update all member retailers as part of its member services. The following are the activities taken up by rai:

RAI's Post Graduate Programme in Retail Management (PGPRM)

rai has tied-up with 17 prominent B-Schools across India to roll out its Postgraduate Programme in Retail Management (PGPRM).

The overall aim of the programme is to provide students with a high level of knowledge and understanding of the concepts and processes involved in retailing and to equip them with the necessary practical, research and analytical skills necessary for a professional career in retail trade or an allied sector. rai's PGPRM responds to the growing demand for retail professionals who have the intellectual and practical abilities necessary to cope with the pace of change in the industry.

Common Admission Retail Test (CART)

Retailers Association of India (rai) is offering the industry-allied 18-month Post-Graduate Programme in Retail Management (PGPRM) from the academic year 2009 in chosen B-Schools across India. The admission of students to rai's PGPRM will be done through the administration of a Common Admission Retail Test (CART) planned to be conducted on the 5th February 2009 and 25th April 2009.

Professional retailing Skills (PRS) course

Professional Retailing Skills (PRS)is an entry level programme designed for a fresher interested in a retail career retail sales staff in any product area and is ideal as an introduction to retail sales skills or as a refresher for those who would benefit from being reminded of the key principles.

Certified Retail Professional (CRP) -

www.instituteofretailmanagement.com aims to create and deliver online retail courses that are both insightful and contemporary. It seeks to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to meet the rising standards of the Retail Industry. It also seeks to develop new tools and online training modules for retail professionals to enable them to offer greater value to customers.

Diploma in Retailing’ in association with Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)

A 1-Year Open Diploma Program in retailing is being rolled out in September 2008 by Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) in association with Retailers Association of India (rai). The Business and University relationships are perfected in this program and all the students who join the program are guaranteed an internship of a minimum of six months duration with a rai member company. This programme has an internship of minimum 6 months with 36 credits of one year duration (minimum).

Certificate Course in Retailing

This course is designed for a fresher interested in a retail career and is ideal as an introduction to the concepts of retailing or as a refresher for those who would benefit from being reminded of the key principles.

Qualification & Certification

Applicants must be graduates or a student in the final year of a graduation program may also apply. Certificate will be awarded by RAI to students successful completion of the course.

The Course has been conceptualised and developed by professionals from the retail industry. The Course also incorporates discussions, case studies, assignments, interactive sessions, workshop, role plays, group presentations, visit to retail stores and distribution centers etc.

INTERNSHIP

The Certificate Course in Retailing consists of 20 days of internship with any of rai's member companies. This will enable the course participant to learn a great deal on the job.
